    There was a Jim somebody back in the mid to late '60's that typically wore a baseball cap....He was the first runner as a high schooler to break the four minute mile....I shall google it and get back to you...

    In 1964, America's Jim Ryun became the first high-school runner to break four minutes for the mile, running 3:59.0 as a junior and a then American record 3:55.3 as a senior in 1965. But I cannot find any pics of him with a baseball cap on, so I guess it is not him. I do remember a runner that always seemed to be wearing a baseball cap and seem to think it may be one of the Pacific Northwest runners....there was another runner besides Prefontain from that area that was of national promanance that was also a little strange. I recall a distance runner from the PNW that died at a very early age. All of this memory is going back to the 60's and 70's.

    you're correct, Jim Ryun didn't wear a baseball cap. He was one of the best milers of all time though. :)

    Prefontaine was the PNW runner who died at a very early age (car crash).

    I was a little kid too! :)

    I'm pretty knowledgeable about U.S. distance runners though. :)


    I have no idea who is good currently ... kind of got away from it since not many US distance runners are any good. :(
