http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner Does the same, I run both on mine. They won't delete malware if it's active but they'll clean it before it installs itself if you catch in time.

If none of those work, bring up task manager, click on process manager, and search each process that's active here http://www.processlibrary.com/ If you find one, which if you're infected you most likely will, that's not in that library google search it. It'll likely lead you to a tech forum somewhere with someone that's already had it and figured out how to get rid of it.

It hasn't shown up today......so hopefully that's good.....I'm going to try the Process Library if it does.....I didn't think of that.

I have AVG Internet Security 9......and yesterday I got PC Tools Internet Security.......are those good?

 

Also I think I know how I got it.....I tried to download a weird file from Ul.to.com.........but I never downloaded the full thing....I canceled it......it was a .rar file....how could it have slipped adware in?

 

Never used them myself so honestly I can't say. We've got Symantec here, which used to be a piece of shit. Now that the newer corp. editions have came out they seem to be doing a better job with viruses and more importantly adware/malware.

Different ways... they can be embedded even in a sigle pic, you click on the pic, it stores itself in your temp internet files, then it installs itself in the background. Same holds true for zip/rar files, when you extract it, it installs itself without you knowing. That's why I have browser settings to delete temp files on exit. Doesn't stop everything obviously but it helps.

Best thing to do is when you have a system you know is clean, take a screen shot of the active processes and save it. Also make a registry backup and keep it in the same place. Each time you install something new do the same to keep your "inventory" up to date. That way you've a refernce to look at if your pc starts slowing down or acting wierd.

 

But all processes aren't active all the time.....so when would I take the screen shot?

And that's what I neant with the .rar file....I never even fully downloaded it....let alone extract it......I guess the adware was on the site.
