Well once you have such a widespread organization will to help and welcome everybody I think they can do quite a lot of good.

 

People have an iherent fear of being in control of their own lives or that there is no one control of it.....so the invent things that make them feel like that isn't true, superstitions, God, prayer, etc. either way, it helps them not go mad.

 

You obviously don't live in the USA. I know few if any people who would agree with that, or even that it's possible except in the exceptionally weak-minded or those who have been completely brainwashed by the religious extremists, and those are few and far between.

If anything, control over their own lives are what most people are constantly struggling to achieve. Where they place their spiritual faith has little to do with it. We're a pretty secular society overall.

So what do you feel is the allure of religious/spiritual belief?



Other than the promise of an afterlife.....that one is rather obvious.

i would say you may be right around your hood
but where i come from, its all about the god. infact, i hear the statement all the time, well thats how god wants it. or everything happens for a reason. all noting back to there inability to control there own lives due to whatever reasons.
even i have been a bit set back by everything that has happened to me in the last few months, i to ten to wonder... but then i always look for someone else to drive.

 

i think its the source of hope. i think its the reason why some manage to even get out of bed in the morning. ask the mother who had to bury her daughter, its gods will ask the widow, its god will. it makes things seem a bit more in order if there is someone else driving. and give us hope. i like hope

its easy to say, well assert yourself and good things will happen, but luck has a lot to do with life, and some replace the word luck with god.

That's what I've noticed too Grims.....people always look for someone else to make it alright or even if they do do it themselves or it happens on it's own they want somebody other than themselves to thank.

For me? I'm agnostic. If I believe in anything it's that life is pretty much random. I don't care about an afterlife, or whether in fact there is one.

Well, you could have a point when talking about hicks out in the boonies I reckon. Guess I'm just used to city livin' with all them liberals.

 

Very true....also by personifying it they believe that it will take pity on share their emotions.

 

Same here....but what do you feel is the want for it is in other people.

 

to varing degrees. here in the Midwest its a different culture from where scribes lives, even more so where i live, as so many of the people around me come from the hills, there religion is the way of life. you simply believe, there is no option and god help you if you dont i think

 

Whenever I hear someone say "it's god's will" I tend to doubt their sincerity. People spit out those old bromides because it's easy to do. Deep down in their heart, or lurking somewhere in their subconcsious minds I bet they feel differently. Just my :2cent:

Yeah, I've seen that....it's sad.

 

Vegas is full of Catholic Mexicans and a surprising number of Republicans.
