Roughly said, in the Northern part of Germany the Evangelic-Lutherans are the majority. In the Southern part it's the Catholics. They have all those beautiful Baroque churches and great cathedrals.
We have some more plain red-brick churches where I live, because that was the main construction material here back then. One of the oldest red-brick churches in my town was built in 1242, Gothic style. Because you can't build as high and monumental with that material, most old churches here are rather small compared to some of the cathedrals in other parts of the country.

God I'd love to visit, I could wonder around for hours in those churches, they have such a calming feel to them.

 

I love visiting churches too. It's like you walk right in to the past.

I wish they had places like that here.

Local temples and stuff are crap for real architectural value.

As for the olden stuff, it is so horrible preserved that it's not even worth going, I once went to a place where there was graffiti all over the walls and garbage laying around everywhere.
