Inuk's Igloo : The Phun Random Chat Thread!

Me, my sister and my nephew dedicate a few hours each day to it. We're coming along pretty good. Should have the porch finished early in the week, barring any set backs, or surprise issues. The attic is kind of a bear with the hot weather and the fact it's 5 flights up. Glad we're bringing stuff down. Taking stuff up would be a bitch. So far we've tossed out about 100 bags of trash - not like refuse, but old pics and news papers and myriad other items my late brother-in-law and his family had stored up there, some things since the 1950s!

 

As a part-time hoarder/collector, I'll bet you guys tossed some historic newspapers.

 

Seeing fireflies for the first time since leaving Louisiana 25 years ago.

Other 'new' old friends: robins, blue jays and gray squirrels. Haven't seen a cardinal yet though.

 

You should be hearing the cardinals -- they're out there!

 

Blue Jays were very common here when I was a kid, but then I went several decades without seeing any....this spring, I see we have a pair in my neighborhood.....

I have several cardinal couples around me....fun to watch.

 

We did, but they were for shit. They weren't properly preserved, which is a shame. A lot of the paper items were terribly yellowed, stiff and/or flaky. Old film negatives were irreparable and horribly faded. My sister's sister-in-law (who lives above her, the house being an old two flat) took charge of most of the old photos and will decide what to do with them.

 

I'm going to watch "Sherlock Holmes" on TNT at 10:30 (about 5 minutes from now!) I want to see how they blasphemed Doyle's original concepts. (An "accurate" Holmes movie would be too boring for the movie-going crowd.)

 

I've heard them for sure, they're just being elusive.

This morning at 3 am there were one I estimate to be several dozen male robins all singing the same song. It was wild hearing their song reverberate through the neighborhood. The robins are ready to mate.

I saw a couple jays at the park splashing about in a puddle. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

 

Yeah, they went and made him a kung fu master.

I'm coming home from work hurting. But my system is causing me less trouble. So it's a toss-up right now.

I still can't afford to have my car repaired. I've been getting rides.
