    They estimate there are half a million feral cats in Clark County (where Vegas is), which would explain the lack of small rodents. :lol:

    Thousands of the residents that abut the everglades have reported missing medium to small dogs, and cats in the past few years. They could decimate the native small mammal population in the everglades, which would have a detrimental impact on native mammals that feed on those smaller mammals, etc. The pythons are expected to migrate northerly and eventually impact all Gulf coast states....:shock:

    That snake had to have been under that house for 20 years or more. Unfortunately you have to weigh the pros and cons to realize whether the "nuisance" pests you have are really beneficial or not.

    That they are. Ever seen a net of them? Seen one in a lake one time and freaked me the hell out. With the creek being so close to house I usually don't have to worry so much about them. Ground rattlers is a different story. There's a good bit of woods around too, they come out a lot when it's dry.

    :shock: Don't want to see that. And me too, got a 20 gauge that I'd be happy to do some target shooting with.

    They think the problem started with hurricane Andrew.....I think that was in the early '90's....many homes and zoos were damaged/destroyed with many "exotic" pets escaping into the everglades areas. So, it has only been 20 years or so for a few dozen pythons to breed into tens of thousands.....proof that the snake is very happy here.....loves the environment and food supply is abundant!

    50 to 100 annually! The geometric progression of that explains the rapid growth......plus some escapes and releases are sure to have occurred during the 20 year period also...
