    In the worst case scenario, yes, that's the problem. But, the question is was it actually something that initiated a drive-by-download with some kind of attack payload and if so, what did it do? If it targets a browser or plugin vulnerability that you aren't vulnerable to, nothing would happen. Don't just disregard warnings like this, but also know that these warning systems take a "better safe than sorry" approach and can include benign detections.

    Yeah, it's huge investment not just in money but in time which is why those homegrown hosts rarely stick around. And, that's a pretty key ingredient to hosting content. I could set up an image host, but will I be around to run it in a year or five? I'd bet against myself vs. any popular image host that has already monetized itself.

    Adblock plugins use a blacklist approach so any domain/url/pattern that is on one your blacklists won't be run. If you are worried about new or obscure domains that aren't on any blacklist, then you'd want something that uses a whitelist approach to block all scripts by default until you allow that domain (ex. NoScript).

    If you want to stay safe from things like this and in general:

    • Keep your OS, browsers, and browser plug-ins up to date (Flash in particular).
    • Disable any unnecessary browser plugins and Java in particular (not JavaScript, there is a big difference). For instance, you probably need Flash and Silverlight plugins for video streaming sites, but maybe not the others. Also, note that I mean plugins not addons or extensions, those are a different story.
    • Enable "click to play" if possible, so when a plugin (Flash, etc) wants to run, you'll have to click a placeholder to indicate your specific intention for it to run.
    • Of course use whatever malware/security suite you prefer, but note that if can only detect a problem after the fact and it should be your last line of defense.
    • If you are still worried, consider your script and ad blocking options.

    Imagevenue is my preferred imagehost as its seems to be stable, sucks this happened, I have no virus I think (I assume AVG would pick it up?) but did not visit the site when FF blocked the webpage, is this issue settled now? Was just temporary issue? Is safe to use imagevenue?

    Good that it is fixed. Are those websites listed on the linked page are pages with the malicious ads? Can Phun decide who they invite to advertise on here or is every site allowed to advertise?

    You'd have to ask cayne, but usually it's up to the ad network. That's kind of the point. Rather than having to find advertisers yourself and collect payment and everything, an ad network does that for you. You just put some JS on your site that lets them load in different ads and they count the impressions or click-throughs and pay you.

    But, in this case, it isn't the ads on Phun. It's something (likely ads) on Imagevenue. So, Phun definitely has no control over that.
