just a couple, one was a test for using color to alpha with a selection, two was just an artsy idea.

believe it or not, that pic of Cindy is from jc pennys catalog, the background is a photo of the Tuscan countryside I like.

here's the working layered file in gimp format http://www.fileswap.com/dl/0tY4pIyaNb/

Oh, on another front, I've stopped using text layers in about everything. Instead, While I'm in fullsize mode (1100x320)

type my text good and big
    choose text to path
    <ctrl+a> on the txt layer
    clear it
    layer to image size
switch to paths instead of objects in view
    choose path to selection
    feather selection 1.5 px
    switch back to object view
use a fill all selection bucket
text is perfect no matter how you resize the image, no jaggies on scaling anywhere. Even works on icons down to 256x256 size.

I redid that last one cause I like the way it scales from another working size I use. And the border is a litle bigger.

What are everyone's thoughts on text placement on a sig? I have went through a few styles: large, edge + top or bottom, wide and spaced and so on. I now stick to a smaller two font style with maybe a shallow gradient that is near the focal point.

I know we all do fairly different things and I'm curious to hear what people like, what they have learned and what they think works and doesn't work for what images and signature styles.

For me it all depends on the sig and how many text there is. If a sig has much open space and little text then i'll go bit bigger with font size. When there is much text i'll keep it smaller. There are also fonts that you have to use bigger, otherwise you end up with a mess

Depends. I cant get passed the fact that its a SIGNATURE file; indicating to me a signature. We tend to use our sig files more like an art show than a signature, hey guys, this is a nifty sig of some chick I'd like to bang this week, or what have you.

That's why a lot of times I do mostly text sigs, not because I particularly like working with text(sometimes it can be fun, mostly, eh.).

Lots of great work sigh. :fing02:

I'm rather fond of the one you made that I'm using right now. It's very unique vis-a-vis the rectangular sigs most people use. :)
