    I felt exactly the same when I first watched American Football decades ago, but I persisted, and I rapidly came to admire the great game. The lucky choice that my wife and I made back then to follow The New England Patriots certainly helped, I'm sure!
    I'm surprised how amateurish FIFA has looked in its introduction of VAR, when American Football has very effectively been using instant replay TV, critical incident reviews, and the Challenge principle for years!

    You know, the VAR may just be having growing pains. IMO when MLB took it up, they had a few issues as well. It seems to run much more smoothly now.

    Love Rugby too (looking forward to the World Cup in October) and longed for the football aka Soccer to have the same tech.
    It's part of their game and it's all but taken for granted as with Wimbledon with "Hawkeye".

    With Wimbledon at first there was some resistance,now people hardly think of it.

    There were too many high-level games where there were abuses, but the Ref "Didn't spot it", thankfully VAR is there now as a failsafe.

    I still think Sepp Blatter was behind the non-introduction of VAR for years (I know the Irish FA pressed for it after the 2009 incident)
    until pressure on him forced FIFA into its introduction.

    Wimbledon 2019 has begun, expect the weather go downhill.

    Looking forward to seeing the new roof over the Number One court in action.


    Oh yeah... Happy Canada day!!!!

    i have never really given American Football a fair chance. Much of it has to do with timezones. There is probably a lot to like about it i just need to take the time.

    Australian Rules football is another totally mysterious game - I've accidentally watched a few minutes of it from time to time, and I couldn't fathom what was going on?
    Since it's her National game back home, I presume that Sophie must be a knowledgeable fan?

    I've never played Aussie Rules & only seen it a few times as I've only seen Gaelic Football a few times too.
    Looking at the two they're really similar with some Rugby elements thrown in.

    It's unlikely to happen, but one would have thought that American Football might be renamed, since foot and ball only connect in very rare instances, and then only by a specific player who does nothing else? :rolleyes:
    One truly bizarre thing though, is that the means of scoring is called a "TOUCHDOWN!" (shades of Rugby?), but which doesn't actually involve touching the ball down at all! :confused:
    Nevertheless, it's a game played at a pace that makes tremendous physical demands on the players, and can produce the most breathtaking examples of courage, skill and dexterity that you might see on any playing field! :cool:

    While we are on the sports that are difficult to understand, it wouldnt hurt to get some help with cricket. Im delightfully puzzled every time i see it.
