Typical critics, but its also part of the trade they need views so some Movies have to be judged as stinkers.

Not entirely all bad news for Sophie T....

"And though Turner may not manage that with her lukewarm Dark Phoenix reviews, she’s achieved something similar by proving herself particularly adept at the art of the press tour—garnering charming headlines for her off-the-cuff remarks on Twitter and in interviews. Perhaps this means that ”Sophie Turner, personality” will remain forceful enough to withstand the disappointments of ”Sophie Turner, movie star.

As it stands, the biggest post-Thrones film star has yet to truly emerge. Emilia Clarke has tried a handful of different vehicles already, finding success with the romantic (and problematic) Me Before You in 2016, and landing a lead role in Solo: A Star Wars Story (a neat opportunity, though the film didn’t quite take off like other Star Wars films). Meanwhile, Kit Harington has also found some success by turning to comedy, hosting Saturday Night Live and doing voice work in the How to Train Your Dragon series. Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark, has taken the same route as Turner, landing a lead role in The New Mutants—a dark X-Men spin-off that has also been delayed for years. Richard Madden, who was killed off of Thrones in season three, might actually be most poised to take the throne, thanks to the crazy global success of his series Bodyguard, his role in the Elton John biopic Rocketman, and his rumored turn as the next James Bond—which has certainly boosted his profile, whether or not his casting actually comes to pass.

Perhaps now that Sansa is behind her and she’s given the superhero world a go, Turner could wind up taking the Robert Pattinson route instead—that is, trading in that Thrones cache to star in smaller, weirder, auteur-driven projects that show off her acting range, rather than her box office appeal. She could even, dare we say it, go back to television to find those kinds of roles: “There’s no bias and stigma like there once was,” Dergarabedian noted. And per Turner’s upcoming slate, it does seem that she is going down that path. Her next projects include Broken Soldier and Heavy—two films about which little is known, though they are both decidedly non-superhero movies that will, hopefully, test her talent in different ways. Until then, she’ll continue to be the best Thrones star on Twitter—a win unto itself."

I will say that while we all tend to love her personality, that and GoT fandom will only go so far before delivering subpar performances catches up to her, something you have pointed out plenty even as a big fan of hers.

Back in London on the way to work have engaged auto pilot.

    Meanwhile
I'm delighted for the USA, a great beginning for them.

A few thoughts on how they celebrated their ongoing win during the game.

    1/ How did Thailand qualify?

2/ I think when you get to a certain score and it's obvious the other team isn't going to catch up and equalise,
does it appear like they're rubbing it in.?

How would they feel if it were the other way around?

3/ In terms of the game, I don't think its never good to have a first game where it's easy (in this case, very easy).
Remember it happened to England in the last World Cup & look at what happened next...

But points wise, top of the table.

Away from that some of the ball action from the Dutch team!!!
Some of the football pundits who criticise the Women's game were really proved wrong in that!

Personally, I'd celebrate that and not winning over a team that was outclassed and overwhelmed.

Precisely! Whom did Thailand beat in order to qualify?

I think you should simply play one's game as best you can, regardless of the disparity of abilities between you and your opponents! Anything less would suggest you were toying with your opponent, which is a pretty unsporting and disrespectful thing to do! Nobody enjoys watching a cat toying with a mouse!

Winning is EVERYTHING to Americans! To them the "thrill and honour of participating" is for the birds! But maybe that's the way it should be if you're professionals? You're not just playing for fun!

I'm sure the Americans won't be fooled into thinking it's going to be easy - they know they've merely done as might have been expected against a weak (the weakest?) team!

Football is a game primarily about skills, and the women are demonstrating that those skills are not gender-dependent!

24 hours ago I was sitting by a pool, now I'm "enjoying" London's Monsoon.

You should hear some of the Male Football "Pundits.
Some example "They can't tackle, it's so slow, they get tired, it's like watching paint dry, it gets tiny audiences compared to Male football".

True audiences have been smaller, but in the English Women's game, take the English FA ban into account, the lack of investment in the Women's game,
it not being featured on Television until the last 5 years (even now some games are hidden away on BBC4 or the Red Button or in Ireland on TG4 an Irish language
TV station which features commentaries in Irish, great if you speak Irish but...) non-existant Prize money and lack of Sponsorship.
I agree to go out to win!
The USA are the current title holders and good for them Celebrating, but I think there's a fine dividing line between celebrating
and when the writing is on the wall and you're up against a team that hasn't a hope of equalising, never mind winning.

Having extended Celebrating 13 times didn't do them any favours and I hope they'll feel the same if they're on the receiving end?

Yes winning is winning (even if you win a bye-election by 800 votes or lose the popular vote but win by an electoral college)
nobody remembers who came second, but I'm looking forward to seeing them up against an opponent that deserved to be there.

Didn't know the English FV banned Women's Football in 1921?
Why women's football was banned for 50 years – and is only just recovering.
In 1921, the FA declared football “quite unsuitable for females” and outlawed the sport.

1921: the year when football banned women.
In the early 20th century, women's football grew almost as quickly as the men's game and reached new heights when the nation's men left for the First World War.
However, in 1921 the FA took the decision to ban women's football, essentially outlawing the game in England. Jim Weeks explores the history of footballing women
in Britain, and how the ban set back the burgeoning women's game.
    https://www.historyextra.com/period...nned-women-soccer-dick-kerr-ladies-lily-parr/

Although its first golden age occurred in the United Kingdom in the early 1920s, when one match achieved over 50,000 spectators,
The Football Association initiated a ban in 1921 that disallowed women's football games from the grounds used by its member clubs.

The ban stayed in effect until July 1971.

Good luck, worse rivals and... a World Cup with too many teams? :dunno:

First, they played against Taiwan and Palestine... Have you ever heard about Palestine football? Me neither. Thai won 0-6, go figure...
Lebanon and Guam withdrew. So, they qualified to the Asian Cup.

And then, they had some good luck on the draw for the Asian Cup. You know how these draws work, don't you? The host goes to the easy group and the best teams go to the group of death.
    Group A: China (ranked 17), Thai (30), Jordan/host (51) and Philippines (72)
    Group B: Australia (6) Japan (11) South Korea (16) ...and Vietnam (35)

5 tickets for 8 teams.... too many?
Anyway, Thailand got it by defeating Jordan and the Philips.

Women football is just beginning, there are 15-20 good countries (US at the top, they may not win everything but they're above) and the rest are amateur.

Edit: found the highlights, Palestine 0 - Thai 6

    It's like US-Thai... but in slow-mo

    Thanks for the facts!!

With the greatest of respect to Palestine, no I didn't even know they had a team?

Mind you talking of lucky draws, I remember some Male World Cup draws and France getting very lucky with who they were up against.
In England's case, its a matter of reestablishing followed a ban by the English FA in 1921, the FA declared football “quite unsuitable for females”
and banned the Women's game from the grounds used by its member clubs.

Before this when it began in the late 19th Century up to its banning in 1921, they were getting crowds of up to 20-50k.
When the ban came off in 1971, it took decades (in fact till this century to get reestablished) and get money back into the game.

A female Premier League boss is progress – but women are treated unequally in football.
As well as historic discrimination, women’s football suffers from a lack of funding and media coverage.

The problem is usually that they are on the other side of the planet when they take the picture. Maybe the camera they use isnt the best either.
