Is it possible that the splitter is not rated for the correct amount of Ohms? Under a lesser demand it could get by, under peak usage, it wouldn't cut the mustard.

He put the splitter in himself, and put in new connectors on the splitter today. It is a possibility. We'll see if the up-to-date connectors help.

    welcome back Thore

if you had wifi then something could have been interfering with that connection, but that can't be it then.

couldn't he give you a new channel or whatever it's called from the main junction? just to test if there is a problem with the connection to that (simplified) or if it's on the way in to your apartment.

I think the power of the signal at PM wall jack is marginal.....and if "noise" exists on the line also, when the system is at peak demand, the signal is insufficiently strong and clear for the modem to maintain its connection, so it drops out. I had similar issues here and the service cable to my house had to be replaced.

He measured the signal to my apt. when he was here, and said the signal was good. More mystery.

if ti's working there can't be a problem with the signal, if it doesn't work on the other hand.....

:33:....then he needs to put a meter on the wall jack that will record the signal strength versus time....should leave it there a few days. PM can also keep a record of internet out times to compare to the meter data. This may be an intermittent problem caused by the main/junction equipment or something interfering with the cable run.....like a nicked cable running through a wall next to the back of a microwave or something else that could degrade the signal.

Seriously though, as Thore said, the integrety of the coax may need to be questioned. A nick, a staple that compromised the copper, etc., etc. .
