Moles are defenseless above ground...virtually blind, relying more on sensitive hearing and smell. Looks like the vole can move freely above ground and the mole is limited....

 

Well, I learned that there is a rodent called a vole that is a mouse that digs a lot.....and I also confirmed that moles here mostly feed on earthworms, which explains why I have so damn many....I have ample earthworms in my yard. :?

 

I just checked further, and a vole and a field mouse are the same thing. Just 2 different names.

 

I need to check to see if the dogs have been fed yet....brb

 

That is strange as the pics for voles and moles in Wikipedia are very different......with the vole looking more like a field mouse and the mole looking like a mole....totally different appearance.

 

I didn't know they were the same thing till just now.

 

What is your source for that determination?

 

This is what my dog digs up in my back yard.....between 3 and 4 inches in total body length...
