New rules: suggestions/questions

Kieks has been talking about the new rules which obviously have to be crafted for this place. It only seems to be the regulars who stick their noses in here, so I thought a suggestion thread might be an idea, as there's definitely some issues that need clarifying/addressing IMHO.

1) Posting links to videos: There's quite a few blind links being posted, and there doesn't seem to be a way of distinguishing between quality content and worthless shitty spam without clicking on them.

Are we going to encourage people to grab what they can with something like NetTransport, and rehost the video on RS with the link to where they got it? I've posted a few short vids/animations since the changeover and this is what I've done.

Will a short description / preview suffice?

2) Thread titles: Now that a lot of people are posting amateur stuff, it can be impossible to search for stuff that's been posted already, especially with crap titles, e.g. 'Look at this hot bitch'. Is there any way to address this?

3) Minimum pictures with a link: Is the 'post at least 5 pics with a link' still going to stand? There's been a few posts with 2 pics and a link, and they seem a bit crap.

4) Posting TGP content: Are we going to be able to link to pics from TGPs, or do we have to go through (i.e. link to) the TGP itself? If we hotlink the pics directly, or save the pics and stick them on an imagehost, it skips the site's advertising that will probably be on the page, especially if it's hosted by the site itself.

Yes, we have been going through some issues regarding new rules for the forum. The 4 rules you mentioned were included in that discussion.

I've got another thought:

Advertising/plugging/spamming: We seem to have various levels of this going on, from members plugging other sites in their sigs (which I've been guilty of to various degrees), to plugging their own sites in their sigs (e.g. a lot of the bloggers), to posting material from & links to their own blogs (quite a lot of this in the Model Forum at the moment), to posting full-on advertisements for their own financial gain.

Where should we draw the line with this? Obviously, the models who have already started multiplying in their numbers will want to use this place to draw traffic (and hopefully members) to their sites - it's how they make their living. I don't think it's fair to have one rule for them and one rule for the rest of us (as that might encourage some of our male members to start posting pics, to be counted as a 'model', and I'd rather not see that!).

There's also been a fair few shit posts, shameless plugs etc - some from noobs, for whom it's fairly easy to say 'yeah, you're spamming', but some from more longstanding members of the forum. We obviously don't want this place to turn into a billboard, so we need some firm guidance on this.

I'd suggest allowing us to advertise stuff in our sigs - but with no encouragement in there (e.g. 'Click this link!' or 'Go to my forum where copyrighted material hasn't been banned yet!'). I'd do this conditionally, banning people referring to any link in their sig in any post they make, as I'd say that's borderline spamming. As for links in posts, I think the old rules cover this well - minimum of 5 (if not more) pics with a link to pictures (see also my TGP Q at the top); as for stuff like news stories and web-based tidbits for the General forum, I'd suggest making people copy and paste the story, then using the link as a sort of reference (see this post and this post as examples). I've already asked the question about videos at the top.

 

There does seem to be a lot of shit floating around lately, maybe we just need more mods.

 

Do you reckon? We've got 5 active mods, and you can imagine we're only gonna get quieter as the dust settles from 'the change' - it sounds like phun's gone through the menopause

We definitely need a decent set of rules, because then instead of just reporting the retards who do shit posts, we could refer them to something and say 'no, like this!', which will make everyone's lives easier, I reckon.

 

just to let you know that this is not a useless thread: thinking about the "title"-issue... at least for the vids it could be helpful to post the file-name of the vid "clear" - maybe in the title or in the post so it might be searchable...
generally i think threads in the video mania should only consist of "self-uploaded" vids... no hotlinking

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for your input (special mention: Doc).We mods have been going back and forth about these rules. We've just finished a basic set of procedures. We're finalizing it right now and waiting for cayne to put a stamp on it, then we'll post it (hopefully before Monday).

My apologies to the "shit floating around". It's not as if the mods aren't working. But its kinda hard to work without a definite set of rules. Obviously, the set of rules will ultimately define what the forum will "feel" like. This is basically charting a new course for the forum, so just a few more days of bearing with us would be much appreciated.

Personally, I'm struggling with the procedures for the Video Mania. It's not about the rules (that's easy) but WHAT will be allowed in there (without stepping into legal landmines AND AT THE SAME TIME not boring the members to death). I hope Mr. Jose Cuervo-Gold will enlighten me further tonite

go to www.rapidshare.de and upload your vid. once it is done uploading you will get a link to post so others can download them. Make sure you either give a good description of the vid or post a few screencaps.

how about if a mod deletes a post the mod concerned might consider sending the poster a quick PM stating why the post was deleted so the poster can correct his/her fault??

How about you get with the program and learn a thing called screencapS. Members do not like blind links or copy and pasting is all you know?

 

I trash several dozen threads a day. This is just me and notincluding all the other mods. We don'thave the time to pm every member why their thread is trashed. If yours is trashed for some reason then it is probably due to some rules violation. Just move on. If you noticed more than one of your thread is trashed them pm a mod and they will be glad to explain.

ok i was just starting to enjoy your PM's but since this has become public...So basically what your saying is you dont have the time to PM a member to correct them on the errors of their ways...If that is the case then i suggest you go here because i heard their looking for staff
