Comedy shows at the well known clubs are big on audience members keeping their phones turned off. Some will even go so far as to kick you out if they see you playing with a phone.

The main reason being is a lot of famous comedians will swing through testing out new material for their upcoming big shows. So they don't want people filming and possibly leaking the material. I know Chappelle has kicked people out for recording and actually walked off the stage cutting his set short.
