Yea, when I first saw this I was surprised by it's explicit nature. Great scene, but Jolie doesnt look her best here IMHO. This scene is better, but she looked better in "Taking Lives".

I have to agree with you about Roberts. Every little actress nowadays aspires to be her, and that isn't good. Why? She does mediocre, and generally unprofitable work. Make mounds of money per flick, and never challenges herself by way of her acting.

It's all about name and face recognition nowadays. That's why so many actresses can take roles that require sex and nudity, yet do none of it themselves. The body double was a terrible invention.

Further, many of these young ladies are based out of the states. Violence is acceptable here, but sex and nudity in the mainstream is generally frowned upon. One reason why pornography has become so commonplace.

Take Jessica Alba. She says she will never do nudity in film. However, she has stated that she would love to play a serial killer in film, in order to be taken more seriously. Ahhh....America. :?:

 

Julia is so conservative with no nudity thing that people had to go back to a movie she did 16 years ago and find a still thats proably in the film 1/100 of a second. thats funny. i saw the reese stuff before but thought it was a doctored fake cause no one ever told me which movie it was.

overall the point i was making was that some a-list have done over the top nude which looks like soft core porn angelina in "Sin" and halle in "monsters ball" while other a-list keep it safe and bore me. im not saving every actress has to be a porn star but if you paly a role that calls for that type of stuff dont shy away from it and play it safe. even Heather Garaham got crazy naked and explicit in "boogie Knights" and we cant get her to do anything anymore either.

 

I agree with you all the way. 70 million people saw Janet Jackson's nipple at the Super Bowl and she still sold albums afterwards, so nudity does not end careers. You gotta respect actresses like charlize theron who has gotten crazy naked in numerous movies and still makes great movies. I say we start a pettion demanding Jessica Alba and Jennifer Love Hewitt get butt naked in their next movies!! WHOS WITH ME!

 

-I completely agree with many of your points. With the younger stars (Alba, Johanson, etc), I think that they are just waiting for the bigger paycheck, and will give in eventually. With the bigger stars (Roberts, etc), they have made it their cornerstone to not be nude, almost as tongue-in-cheek humor. Personally, I think that all hot celebs should do a nude scene. If they are getting that kind of money, the least they can do is whip out a titty every now and again.

...and the Reese Witherspoon nude scene is from a movie called "Twilight" co-starring Paul Newman and Gene Hackman (http://imdb.com/title/tt0119594). Not a bad flick, even without the nude scene.

No, her scenes were fairly dark, and there really wasn't anything overly explicit about the role. Even though many wanted you to believe it was raunchy and cutting edge. Personally, I believe her career had been going the way of many aging actresses. Younger actresses were getting her "You've got Mail", type roles, and I think she saw it a last chance to do a movie like "In the Cut", while possibly opening up some avenues to some more serious future roles. It may have worked, it may have not. She still has many movies in production, and for an actress approaching 50, that isn't bad. When careers are based on beauty and face recognition, roles are bound to fade away once a person approaches 50.

I equate it to Debbie Gibson posing for Playboy. She had better get nude (and paid in Gibson's case) while she still can.

Reading all these posts about Julia Roberts, thing is, I wouldn't want to see her naked ass. Bet you that she's more appealing with clothes on than off.
