Well, now that we have GBs and GBs of storage, why the hell not save all PSDs? :)

Heck, TB hard drives don't cost that much.

I merge effects if they dont stack well, but I'm with you on the new layer thing. Ctrl+Shft+E is your friend  I have XCF 571 files @ 4.1 GB, PSD 243 files @ 2.1 GB, Just since March of 2009. Everything older is on backup drive.

 The sig i did for Hayd's 50k has about 230 layers. Probably 35-40 of them are "new visible" layers,

80 megs? I have single files bigger than that!

I dont delete anything unless i really hate it.

It's not that hard to do. I have different layers grouped together. Grouping all the work layers then doing a visible at the top, dupe it, then start a whole new layer group off the dupe. I've lost way too many hours trying to recreate some look I really really liked that was merged and lost to do that anymore. It's really not that hard to get big layer counts like that if you just keep all the work layers turned off and just work with the new from visibles layers. A file might reach 300 megs in memory, but at the end i can just do a final new from visible from all tho other new from visibles and save that one layer as a *.jpg and my file size will be nice and small. Because of the way I do this I also almost never have to go back in history more than 3-4 steps because that'll be where I made my last new from visible. If I dont like something I just turn off that group and hide it. I still keep all the layer work just in case i want to use it in another pic down the road from now. Also, some groups are just a lot of adjustment layers and can be applied to almost any picture to get a canned effect. Why go to the trouble of redoing something I already have? You can see how I could get to a lot of layers fast this way. HDD space is virtually unlimited today so what do I care if I use 100 gigs out of 1,000 to save years of my time and efforts? If didnt, I'd just fill it up with crap movies or low grade porn that can easily be burned to dvd and take up no disk space at all.

Try this. Make a 1920x1200 wallpaper composite collage. Have at least 3 different pics of girls and at least 3 different backgrounds and 3 different effects pics.

At just 25 layers per source, you have 225 layers and that doesnt include your new from source, scratch made or final production layers.

Here's a Salma sig I'm about 1/2 done with. It has 6 source pics and 38 layers right now.

I expect to end up about 45 layers on this one I guess. I'm not happy with the way she's blurry so I'll replace her with another cap from after the sunset i like better.

    Show offs!

LOL! I've learned though, now I save all my .psd's, but I never thought to just "Apply Image" rather than merge, that's a good idea Sid! :D

Gentlemen. I trust the evening finds you all well?

I've come to the conclusion that I love the hell out of this pic, and methinks if tinkered with, it would make a tasty sig. ;)

If any of you guys are up for it, I'd love an obnoxious, frisky, ignorant sig whipped up with Alex as the center of attention. All ya all are talented as a bastard, and any entries put forth will definitely get their share of air time. ;)

Again....if you guys are up for it, I'd love to see any, and all that you come up with. TIA. :D :beerchug:
