I loved these pix so I thought I'd try make a sig

 

I dont think I've seen a better, more creative sig than this. And I mean that as a compliment to Lukin, not a detraction from otheres. It is simply superb.

 

thanks for all the comments guys, and Aust i'll see if i can put together a little tutorial on how i did it, not nearly as complex as it looks, once you know the methods doin stuff like that is really easy, only took about 10 minutes, and almost half of that was cutting round the heads!

 

ok, here we go, in 10 steps i actually did the original at 1500x500 then resized it but this example shows it at 450x150.

(Note: most of the images are transparent pngs, except the ones showing the selection process which are capped straight from photoshop, there's never a background layer, just looks a bit confusing cos of where you can see the photoshop transparency in pics 6-9)


source pic, resized to fit, colour adjusted, and of course a bit of topaz to sharpen it up


cut round the heads removing all background, just leaving aria and jelena


duplicate the layer and move one to each end of the sig


combine them onto one layer (optional) and use the clone tool to join the hair together, this doesn't need to be seamless as you can see


pick a font and place the text over the pictures, you'll probably need to stretch the text one way or the other to get it to fit right. you want the text over the images, but with parts of each face sticking out each end of the word (i've only put the black stroke on the text to make it easier for you to see)


here's where the fun starts, select the text as shown


invert the selection, this selects all the image outside the boundary of the text


using the subtract selection tool, deselect what you want to keep of the image, in this case, each full models head, and the parts extending out of the L and the N


hiding the text layer shows you what you've got selected, confusing to look at though, can't really work out what's what!


press delete and that's what you're left with

this is the final realisation of a sig i came up with about 3 months ago, and after struggling with it and putting it off, i've finally finished it! came up with the idea when i was thinking about what goes in to designing a sig.

 

It's more a test of the text effects... I don't think the text fit's the image perfectly.
