    do you do it with a regular tomatoe sauce with some herbs. I have been curious to make something like that. With just a bit of sprinkled flavored cheese on top.

    I always start with the cheapest, plainest sauce. Then and onion, oregano, minced garlic, teaspoon of white sugar, parsley and a couple bay leaves. Bring it to a boil, turn down the heat, cook it down by a third, and it's ready.

    yeah I used the last of the parm cheese in the meatballs but otherwise I'd put some on top .

    I use a combo of canned plain tomato sauce, canned diced tomatoes and tomato paste. For seasoning I use salt, garlic powder, black pepper, dried basil and dried oregano. If I'm just making it for myself I ass crushed red pepper flakes also. 5 minutes before I am ready to eat I throw in fresh basil leaves.

    oregano is a hit or miss for me but i think it comes down to learning where the sweet spot is. Either way thanks bud. :beerchug:

    Oh and the meatballs are italian sausage, ground beef, panko bread crumbs, fresh basil, garlic powder, eggs and milk. cooked and cooled onions and garlic also get mixed in.

    Basil is way better but I think it needs a little oregano to counteract the sweetness of the basil.

    And like merlin I sometimes add a pinch or two of sugar
