Macron says it will be rebuilt within 5 years i like his spirit but its not some sort of skyscraper we are talking about, its a difficult building with lots of decorations and details. I would guess closer to 10 years.

When i first heard Macron gave a target of 5 years to complete the restoration, I thought "Its Politics" and all about his re-election.

I'm slightly more interested that they are opening up the reconstruction of the Spire to a International competition to redesign it.
Personally I hope they don't go for a Disney Castle version of a Medieval Cathedral, personally I'd love to see a "Glass" Spire that shines at night
in the spirit of the Pyramid at the Louvre.

Yes reconstruct the roof so it is faithful to the original design, but leave elements to show that this was restored in the second decade of the 21st Century.
New building techniques (that may not be visible) plus a 21st Century fire defence systems and fire tenders that can reach every part of the Cathedral exterior.

On Billionaires giving money to restore Notre-Dame, great, but where were they for the last decade when they had a public appeals to fund the restoration
of a building that was in serious state of disrepair and neglect? their appeal's went all but unanswered.

There has been extended arguments between Paris City Authorities & the French Government and the Cathedral on who should pay for any restoration.

With those Politicians all but refusing to contribute, so much so that the Cathedral in the last two years they had to resort a appeal to the French general public
to contribute, they have but not nearly to fund the amount of restoration that was needed.

Personally i think its absurd to think you could resort Notre-Dame in 5 years.

I wouldnt be against a redesign of the cathedral, but i think its important that it captures the old cathedrals specific style. I have a feeling it may not be to welcome by some catholics in France. But does it have to be a bad thing to consider a redesign of the building. One of its most memorable trademark the towers were more or less unharmed. So that wont change. I have faith that they will have a good taste when they decide what path to take.

Style is not what i mean what im getting at is the specific feeling you got when you were at Notre Dame and walked in the Cathedral. It should feel like Notre Dame.

I think the oldest parts of Notre Dame should be restored using traditional materials and methods, but the nineteenth century spire could quite justifiably be replaced with a twenty-first century version.

I'm all for a restoration back to its original form, so anyone looking at it in the future will see it as visitors of hundreds of years have seen it.

I'm doubtful there are enough French forests to produce enough timber to recreate its original Medival timber supports.

But in areas where it will never be seen from the nave, I'd love to see modern designer 21st-century roof spans, so this is our gift, our mark to future generations.

Sadly since part of the original roof of the nave has been destroyed, I'd love to see the original ceiling recreated.
But with a narrow focused light well in the middle of it, a visible beam of light from the 21st Century to the future.

With the spire I'd love to see a "Glass" Spire, that would shine out to Paris, Europe and the World at night.

Apt since Paris has been known as the "City of Light".

Its a miracle the North Tower survived!!!

York Minister took 4 years to restore/rebuild after a light strike destroyed the roof, the area that was destroyed was a lot smaller than Notre-Dame.

So Macron giving a 5-year time scale is unrealistic if he wants to use traditional methods to recreate the roof and nave.
To me it would be more like 20 years plus, ironically money is not the problem now, its the task of organising the mammoth
task in what will be (by the time they begin) well under 5 years.

I think its more about Macron being at the centre of its re-opening for the Paris Olympics.

I found it really disturbing, I've seen films that were a lot more violent.

But seeing it set in some kind of UK alternative Universe, made it all the more disturbing.
Especially much of inner-city life as depicted in Clockwork Orange is a reality now.

    Malcolm McClaren was incredible!!

What made it all the more powerful was the soundtrack, classical music and Hollywood show tunes.

I'm glad I saw it, but it's still with me, which is good as it should be.

My friend who saw it with me said "Fuck that's hardcore brutal" and she has seen a lot of violent films.

One must also remember that Macrons popularity isnt that high in France right now. This could be something he can use to unite the french. Lets all focus on this national catastrophie et cetra. It makes him look more like a true leader to give a distinct plan.

I do remember the soundtrack rather vividly still. Sure there are certain scenes that remain. Like when he jumps out the window. And that huge white phalice. I dont want to get into that particular scene. Lets just say its a reason the british censorship board or what its called had issues with the feature.

Was it Wendy Carlos that did the soundtrack like in the Shining.

    A tale of Two Malcolm's

    Meanwhile

I've read that McLaren wasn't the most pleasant person (hits on every girl on a shoot) & that Kubrick could "Act like a Maniac" at times.

Malcolm McDowell is a "Sweetheart and a real professional".

I have my Dad's vinyl of "Buffalo Gals" somewhere.

    and

Half day at work, Boss let us order a Deliveroo breakfast on her & we finish at 12:30pm and I'm not back till Tuesday morning.
and the Billionaires will get 60% tax relief on their donations.

:lmao::lmao: honestly wouldn't surprise me at this point. And I'd have to give them kudos for such an epic troll job if they indeed did that. Not approval of course, but kudos for the creative middle finger. I would say wanna switch governments, but yours has its fair share of problems and morons too:empathy:
