With all the talk about the ball pressure issue, not once have I heard any report as to where the ball were filled and tested (by the refs)....if that was done inside and the ball taken outside, assuming the inside is heated and the outside was "cold", then Hook's Gas Laws (high school chemistry) would tell you that when the volume is unchanged and the temperature is lowered, the pressure will also be lowered.

true, but the Patriots balls lost approx 2lbs of pressure, while the Colts balls did not. It wasn't even that cold at the game, but you do make a good point

OK. 24 balls are available for each game. Home team selects 12 and the rest are sent to the visitors. Each are "doctored" by the team managers to fit the likes of the starting QB. What exactly, IDK. The balls are then re-checked by the officials. Neither group of balls are separated until game time, then they are shuttled to the appropriate sideline. Hook's Law would NOT come into play this time! It could be a malfunction of the pressure gauge that filled said balls in question. We will NEVER know what the true deal was.

sometimes they rub their balls :)

the new balls are shiny and slippery and each QB likes these brand new balls to be broken in differently.

that's why everyone keeps saying that its VERY unlikely anyone would doctor the balls in anyway without the permission of or direction from the starting QB.

OK, let's look at it from a conspiracy type deal. Maybe the Colts tried to sabotage NE's footballs. Hey, the Patriot's have one of the league's best kicker's in Gostkowski!!!!! An under-inflated ball wouldn't travel near as far as a regulation ball....

true, but the balls used for kicking are maintained by the officials ... they don't get broken in the same ways as the QBs balls do, so no need to ever give custody to the teams and invite such "gamesmanship". :)

    me either.

This week I learned a lot about how the NFL handles their balls. Most of this stuff is pre-game minutia fans don't concern themselves with.

Just baseball on and off. I used to follow the Braves, a lot less now than 5 years ago though. I'm not really into them much to be honest.
