    I always check views vs posts. It lets me know which Phunners are really gonna check out something new and possibly contribute. Not that anything I post is geared towards that. Mainly music for me and I could care least about the rest. I feel bad for the thread starters. AM I saying this right?

    I played in various nondescript groups in my middle teens....all about my age and all local. I would never consider myself a professional, but more of a hobbyist.....we were paid very little and most of our gigs were Friday/Saturday nights at various Fraternity house parties.

    well, easy story. I had a woodwork class scheduled over 2 periods, and at the start of the 2nd period I was supposed to go and play.. not a chance in hell to remember that, and when I asked for the guitar lessons to be moved to a better time, they refused.

    not much of an option there, either quit or miss every lesson

    Shortly after my 12th birthday, I found a broken guitar in a trash pile.....I retrieved it and took it home, fixed it, spent my first month paper route income for some strings and a few beginner books on playing the guitar and just started. My parents had an old upright piano that my much older sister played that I also played by ear. I continued to mess with the guitar for about a year, then bought a used, 1957 Les Paul solid body guitar with a cheap, piece of shit mini amp. That is when I began to seek out others to play with. I have always liked what is now considered to be classic rock n roll....late 50's thru about 66. I traded in my Les Paul for a custom ES-335 Gibson. By then I was also working summers and was able to purchased two, Dual Showman Fender amps and began playing paying gigs....about $10 a night plus tips. I always had Gibsons and would use medium to medium/heavy nickel flat wound strings as there was no finger squeak and a less twangy tone than standard strings....I prefer a more bluesy sounding RnR.
