    They will have to remove a small section of fence, so I will need a temporary fence installed so the dogs will be secured. I expect the cost to be around $750.....we shall see.

    The local common name is Swamp Chestnut Oak and it is well above my two story house. They tend to grow more straight up compared to a live oak, have very large leaves and very large acorns, like 1.5 inches long and about an inch wide......they hurt like hell when you get beaned by one. Funny thing is, the squirrels don't eat them...:dunno:

    Just before we moved in, I planted two of them, one on each side of the driveway.....later on, I planted another 6 generally around the perimeter of the property....may plant some more in the next few years. I like the shape as you can trim the lower branches and still get sunlight underneath them so plants and grass can grow well.

    I think I've heard of them as simply Chestnut oaks... :dunno: Were they slow to produce the acorns? I have a few Sawtooth oaks that should be producing in the next few years... just wondering.

    I think they need to be 15 to 20 year old before the produce acorns....I know that I have a dozen or so sprout in my yard every year. They also seem to have heavy and light years for acorn production.

    I wish I had a few well established producers. The sawtooth acorns are really small, about a half an inch. I'm just looking some hardtack for the deer....

    No, I just Googled the name of the tree and downloaded those pics to show Merlin. My trees are much larger than the ones in the pic, but the larger acorn is typical of the size I get from mine.
