Here in Michigan, hunting is a multi-million dollar industry. The Department of Natural Resources manipulates the natural food supply to ensure there will be enough animals to hunt each year. Those mega-millions they get from hunting are important to the State.

 

Deer are fairly plentiful. Probably the best managed game animal there is.

Every 8 hour a rhino get killed, as there is a stupid Chinese who thinks his "dick" is gonna get bigger !

 

When I lived in Colorado I'd see mule deer and elk all the time, until hunting season, when they'd make a beeline for the national forests, where they are off limits to hunting.

 

That's a result of poaching, not regulated hunting.

Hunting (including fishing) taps into our hard-wired need to get food. We all have it for survival purposes. Over the years people and states and countries have figured out a way to make money off of the thrill that we get when we shoot an animal dead, or catch a fish. It's pretty simple.

 

Poachers should be shot. As a matter of fact, a long time ago a friend's dad took shots at a poacher on the dad's property (nothing was hurt but the deer).
