    One of the local courses sponsors a shotgun start tourney every Thurs. through the company my brother works for. It's more a social thing than a win at all costs deal.

    Never played golf. I used to work on a golf course though. I was on the maintenance crew. I would like to try it some time.

    Seems like its not a game you just pick up and excel at.

    I like a shotgun start and best ball since I suck. If the other golfers are great you can play from where they landed (usually in perfect position) and sometimes pull off a great shot since there is no pressure. :D

    There's no such thing as a natural in golf. It only comes with much practice. Seek out a driving range. I spent time at one and it will give you a feel for it.

    See what I mean... First I've heard on both.

    However, big write up in today's USA Today about Anheiser-Busch puuting pressure on the NFL regarding the negative publicity and their future association.

    Instead of all groups waiting to start the course at the first hole, the groups are spread among all the holes/tees.....they start playing when a loud, audible signal is made.....in early years, it would the firing a shotgun.

    shot gun start means each group goes to a different hole and everyone starts at the same time (usually signalled by a horn) instead of each group going off one by one starting at the first hole.

    Best ball means that you after each shot, everyone in the foursome plays from where the best shot landed, not where you ball landed.

    TBone cover me on this. OK, say you have 10 Four player teams, you draw numbers straws whatever to figure who starts on what hole. That's the shotgun start. Best ball is pretty simple. There's only one scorecard for each team of four and obviously you want to shoot at each "best ball".
