Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

When I start at 4, my clothes are completely soaked through in the first 1.5 hours, and my face is dripping sweat, during the truck unload.

I am use to it....and when I start to get too hot, I quit for a while to cool off. However, when I was a young teenager, one summer I worked in tobacco fields and barns from sun up to sun down......for $0.90 and hour and all the water I could drink.

Actually, that was not as bad as working in 8 to 10 foot tall corn about 1pm...when the sun is directly overhead.....documented a few times with the temperature at 108 and 95% HR. And the damn corn leaves cut your neck and the inside of your elbows when you walk down the rows. I don't miss those days at all, but was glad to have the work and income back then. Heck, with $100 back then I could buy all my school clothes and supplies for the entire year.

Once in a while we get a "privileged" young guy or girl whose parents make them get a job like mine to see what it's like. They go on in life to receive their Cadillacs though, with a good work ethic too.

I snuck dinner in during the last hour. I'm having a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. :)

I did not spend much money on things like movies or sodas, etc. as a kid...I worked to hard to get my money. When I was about 8, on Saturdays when my dad had to go down town to work for a few hours, I would go with him and set up on the sidewalk and shine shoes for 10 cents a shine.....on a really good day I may make a dollar. I always sold concessions at the U of F football and basketball games.....could make 2 or 3 dollars in about 4 hours then. I remember saving pencils that were all but used up all year long and would sell them at a track event called the Florida Relays held in early spring....major high school and college track meet with college participants from all over the country.....the programs were thick with all the events, heat races, etc. and people would want to make notes in their programs, but often did not bring a writing instrument.....I remember it was 5 cents w/o any eraser and 10 cents w/ some eraser....I later would hit the 5 and dime store and buy the little plastic twisty manual pencil sharpeners for about 5 cents each and sell them at the track for 10 cents. The pencils were a personal addition to selling ice cokes to.....I think the cokes were 25 cents each and I made 2.5 cents per coke sold.

Leo is licking the floor near where I ate the cookie. If there was even one crumb, it's gone now.

I started summer jobs at 14, but didn't work during the school year till the end of high school, when I started to play professionally at night.

I guess I need to sign off and go to bed before I bore you to death! I guess you can figure out that it bothers me to see so many of today's young people just take everything for granted.....even as a young adult, I went without many of the desirable things, like furniture, because I could not afford to buy it and I did not believe in charging things you did not desperately need...like a tube to fix your flat tire on your bicycle...anyway, see you tomorrow and good night PM...:bye:

I was not allowed to work during the school year except for a paper route between the ages of 12-14. That changed after high school as I left my parent's house which meant no $ help from them when I started college....it took me 7 years to get a 5 year engineering degree, but I did it on my own with no education loans....just lots of hard work. Working 30 to 40 hours a week and taking a full engineering course load was difficult, but where there is a will, there is a way. You can win as long as you refuse to lose.
