One each in the three bedrooms, one in my den/bedroom, one in the play room over the garage, and two in the family room which is approximately 34' x 16'.

 

I bought them at Home Depot and put them up myself in May of 1990 just before we moved into the house.

 

I think that was a good idea. Thinking ahead, my good man.

 

I bought and installed much of the "none essential" or built in items in this house, and a few things I had friends that did it for me. In some cases, I saved a bunch of money and in others I paid the same as what the contractor would have charged, but got much higher quality product and or installation.

 

Ceiling fans can pay for themselves in just a few years in electrical power savings by allowing you to have the thermostat set a few degrees higher for your AC.

 

I've always wondered how much ceiling fans consumed compared to, say, a light bulb.

 

Forgot to say I have a ceiling fan in the apartment. I hardly use it.

 

Depends on the light bulb and the ceiling fan (quality of construction, fan speed, etc.). A good ceiling fan running at low to medium generally will use as much electricity as a 25 to 40 watt incandescent light bulb.
