Really? He's my favorite author. He's known for dark stuff, be he also has intellectual stuff as well. He created the detective fiction genre. He laid the groundwork for Sherlock Holmes.

 

All true. Perhaps I should try him again. Like I said, it's been many, many years.

Wikisource has all of his stuff. I have a book of his complete works, I'm still making my way through it. His detective stories are: "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" (1841), "The Mystery of Marie Rogêt" (1842) and "The Purloined Letter" (1844).

I've been slowly working my way through Poe's work...I have one of those complete works books too. Good stuff!

Not much really....I have read a few stories and I do know a bit about him though.

 

Poe's works are in the common domain...........you can basically get them all for free.

 

It's an older book (They come out with a new one every couple of years), but it's a great price considering the amount of content you get.

His portrayal in popular media is quite misleading. He was actually a very smart person. Most people just know him as a drunk that wrote only dark & twisted stories, but there's much more to him than that.

 

I like having a book in hand when reading.

 

Actually he wasn't even a drunk.......it's speculated that he had an ailment that made his body susceptible to alcohol....so even the smallest amount made him very drunk.

 

That's true. Unfortunately people didn't have the knowledge back then that we do now. He had a lot of detractors in his time.
