The funny thing about pop music is the things we consider standards, classics today was considered pop music in its day
    So idk
all genres produce good music for the most part

    Pop = Popular.

And Beyonce actually sings R&B (rhythm and blues) but she has crossover (Pop) appeal.

while that may be true, today's standards are far lower as to what is actually good music. Auto-tune, studio sessions where EVERYTHING is overlaid by a computer to remove even the slightest imperfection, and the music industries strive to make money have made much of what is produced today garbage.
What, if any, part of today's music could be considered groundbreaking or new. Rap, R&B, Rock, and country haven't produced anything new in over a decade. Its all a rehash of the previous generations creations without the courtesy to even try to make it new. Sure bands like Led Zeppelin and Tina Turner took older songs as a basis for their music, but even when Zep used a Muddy Waters song, they made it their own.

Dammit..not an upskirt in sight..probably because her bodyguards are trained assassins who could snap a paparazzi's neck like a twig.

The event the pictures are from is for a screening for her visual album project.

Plus more often than not these release parties are a product of contract and label obligations not at the request of the artist themselves. Im sure Beyonce would rather be home than at a release party with paparazzi and photographers snapping pictures every 3 seconds...

    Um, no.

I've known "artsy" indie bands with 5 fans who threw album release parties. Everyone does. It has nothing to do with whether or not you're an artist - it's about celebrating your hard work, sharing a moment with your fans/supporters and, yes, promoting your work.

*ANYONE* who is serious about music promotes his or her work because it's the only way you can make a living off it. If you 100% aren't in this for money, you're not going to be able to do it full-time, so you're not truly passionate about music. It's just a hobby.

As for Beyonce...I've never thought she was especially attractive, but damn if that isn't a sexy dress.

    Agreed for the most part
But I still believe good music can and has been made even inside the formulas they use to make popular music

The way she keeps holding the dress, I think it's shorter than she is comfortable with. However, she looks spectacular!

....you seem to have missed the distinction entirely. When an indie band with 5 fans holds an album release party it's about celebrating hard work. When you're a world renowned "musician" you don't hold album release parties to celebrate hard work you didn't do. You through them because, as some else mentioned, it's part of a contract, along with dozens of other public appearances to bolster your PR and to basically advertise yourself because you've become a corporate commodity, along with the outfits you wear, the automobiles you drive, and the product placements in your music videos. It would require a gross misunderstanding of what music is to perceive it in it's current mainstream form as any form of respectable art. It has been corrupted beyond recognition.

My college band had an album release party. We probably sold 100 CD's total. A big point of it was to get paid, to help cover the costs of making the darn thing, and to grow our fan base so as to be able to make more money from future gigs. It did not serve the purpose of celebrating our hard work with our fans. It's no different in the big "corporate world." They have to milk the cash cows so as to fund all the new projects.

And to the people angry about "music today versus yesterday," the great stuff today is as good as any great stuff from any day. The difference is that you don't remember the mediocre stuff from days past, but you do have to put up with the current mediocre stuff while it gets sorted out.

Finally, Ms. Knowles is maybe a 7 or 8/10 while standing still, but in motion while performing, she is beyond beauty and sexiness, into a level of goddess-ness.

If You Like It You Shoulda Put A Ring On It is quintessential Rand B at its finest. Reminds me of all those R and B standards from the 60's and 70's. Quite the observation you had there.

Wow. The members of this forum never ceases to amaze me with their condescension of pop stars/music. IMO she just released her best album, and the album of year, and I say this after the shock value has worn off of her releasing this with no hype, featuring some really, really, really, really hot songs/videos, and instantly iconic moments like "Yonce all on his mouth like liquor," "surfboardt," "driver roll up the partition please," "I woke up like this," etc. I think it's ok for her to have a lil release party like jfc.

Anyways, love the outfit here. Bey looking sexy as fuck. :32: :yumyum: :32:

She looks like a slightly chubby hooker. she kind of looks like a guy in her face in some of these photos. If I met her on the street I wouldn't be entirely sure what she is.....

My brain fizzled there for a moment...I don't know if you're being ironic...but the second half of that paragraph basically explained the first half. It's so very difficult not be judgmental and generalize with song titles like "Yonce all on his mouth like liquor" (please don't tell me this is real.)

How is throwing a much-publicized album release party "releasing this with no hype"?
