    probably not the best way to go about it, especially with a video of you doing it (if it's even real and not been filmed while doing renovations or something equally innocuous).

    if it is real i can partly understand where he's coming from, i don't know what it's like in France, but i know in some places, and Britain in the past decade or so but not so much now, not getting a security deposit on rented accomodation back at the end of your tenancy is just a given, an expected loss that you just have to live with, regardless of the condition when you leave. effectively a landlords racket.

    and even getting it back through the police/courts is near impossible. i remember moving out of a flat in 2011, everything was as we found it, but we hadn't given the place a proper clean before we left as we were in a rush to get moved out on time. the estate agents representing the landlord said it was gonna cost £350 to get cleaners in so we'd lose that from the deposit. me and my mate went back for an hour and cleaned it ourselves, got it all back. so landlords can easily 'justify' keeping the money based on the inflated costs required in cleaning up after people.

    not every landlord obviously, but a lot. and if this guy's just lost 2 grand, i can see where he's coming from! but not really a great way to go about it.

    and if he isn't then he is dumber than dumb because he just gave the landlord all the evidence he needs to win $5,000 without an effort at all. Judge would throw the book at this tool.



    I'm a landlord, and the courts screw me more than anything. But I've figured it all out now. Last Tenant wrote me a check for $3,600 because he knew going to court he would lose. I sued tenants 2 times prior to that for around $3,000 total and was only awarded $1,200 mostly because I was new to the game and the magistrate is kind of an idiot. I know how to bypass him now, or at least make it so he has to award me my judgement.. the sad thing is I never inflated any costs, made anything up or anything, yet tenants lied like crazy and the magistrate would let them talk. Now I have enough ways to defend against that so I can sue them for defamation and slander as well as for damages to the rental unit.

    Dumbest rule ever, I have to pay a 3rd party to do repairs in order to be awarded money for the repairs. An example is ripped out cable outlet in the wall. parts cost like $5, I charged them $25 total since I repaired it myself, Comcast Cable Company charges like $30 if they are already there for another reason and $45 if they make the trip just to fix an outlet. It takes time to go to the Rental Unit and to the Hardware store and get the parts as well as time to fix it. I can however pay a 'friend' who then gives me a receipt and get awarded the full amount. So you make friends with other businessmen who are in the same business and you all do work for each other, in a sense it's like doing work for yourself but you get paid for it in COURT.

    I would rather the tenant called comcast cable and had them fix and paid them directly, I prefer not having to deal with it. What I do know is this, all the IDIOTS/Bad Tenants/ had bankruptcies on their record and also had pets. The Tenants who didn't give me any issues who got their ENTIRE DEPOSIT back didn't have a bankruptcy and I don't think any of them had pets. Pets do damage and they also EAT YOUR MONEY.. so you have two kids and two cats/dogs.. now you have 4-6 mouths to feed instead of 2-4 mouths...
