    In the latter '80's, i installed a network system in the entire third (top) floor of our office building. Worked fine for about four years, then we started having problems.....turns out, attic rats gnawed on my cables...:mad:....I re-ran new wire in metal conduit. ;)

    however, if a technician is brought there he should have at least checked the signal, not just wing it and replace things here and there

    Several years ago I used Cox Communications for my TV and internet service. Things were fine for several years, then my modem started dropping out. I bought a signal booster from Radio Shack and that solved the problem.....about a year later, it started again. I had the booster tested and it was still workking fine, so i called the cable company. They came out and the first thing that they did was to 1) test the signal quality and strength at my modem (weak), then test it at my main splitter box in the garage (weak), then test at the point of entry box on a wall out side my house (week), then test at their service box at my property corner (strong). They determined the buried cable most likely had been damaged and they immediately replace it leaving it on top of the ground, then told me there would be a sub-contractor out within 48 hours to bury the cable. Things have been fine ever since and had no service charge for anything.
