    Indeed. Turns out the apartment owner also owns at least part of the cable/internet company....I asked him some questions about just what the guy did that came out last Thursday....like did he test the line for signal strength, noise, etc. and PM said all he did was replace the modem and leave......what a dumb ass! The problem is not the modem, it is most likely a signal that is too weak to keep the modem connected....

    When my building opened, we had what sounds like the same problem. If it's coming through coax. , which most of mine were, they had to install additional equipment where the main feed entered the building.

    I was having an issue like pm is having and a replacement modem did the trick. Still, more troubleshooting should have been done.

    Going well. Went into work. Stood around for an hour and left :lol:

    Cant see why adding additional equipment would be necessary. He hasnt always had this issue, has he? If any equipment is needed, it would surely just be a replacement, no?

    We thought the same thing. Once we were at 100% occupancy there was recurring problems with the system. They installed, as Thore said, an amplifier and the problem went away.

    So pm lives in a building with other residents? If thats true then perhaps a few extra people moved in. Not sure how long hes lived in his current place, or if any newly occupied spaces have been empty the whole time hes been there. It may be that, but my first instinct would be the already existing equipment. Im no cable technician :lol:

    The main equipment could be at issue....having lost power or gained noise for some reason. There is also the possibility of the coaxial cable going from the main equipment to the apartment may have been nicked or otherwise damaged. The likelihood of that depends on the manner of cable installation. If it is not in conduit, which most are not, then there is a possibility that another tennant may have put up shelves, hung a picture, etc. to damage the cable.
