Yes! Tomorrow I'm going to put her back on her regular food. I mixed half hamburger and half regular food tonight.

Thore, how much water do you use to soak Amelie's food? Cold water? And do you drain all the water before you give it to her?

I am so glad to hear she is doing well. And I really cannot answer your question quantitatively as I never measure the water. Also, I do not think it is all that critical. I measure the dry food for her and place it into her dish, then I just barely cover the dry food with water. Normally, I use cold water and let it soak 30 to 60 minutes. Sometimes I am late getting this done, and when that happens, I use hot water as it shortens the soaking time. I would suggest that you start out missing on the low side as it is easier to add and impossible to subtract water. Is she use to canned or dry food? If she is use to dry food, the definitely go easy on the water initially. Amelie is a large dog weighing 85 pounds. She gets a small can of dog food mixed in with her soaked dry food. Initially, I just mixed them together dry, but she vomit the food in the back yard....guard it....then re-eat it about 30 minutes later. I believe she would eat the food too quickly and then not drink sufficient water....and this did not sit well with her stomach. So I tried the soaking of the dry food and she has had no problems since.

 

The dogs have not readily consumed their "first of the month medicine with extra goodies" very well, so I am looking at a hamburger meal in the future. :?

Blaze eats dry food (Iams). You explained it perfectly. I may try it if Blaze's regular food gives her trouble again.

 

It is an individual thing there PM....Domenic is a grazer....he nibbles the dry food all day long. I think his digestive system is smaller than what you would think from his size (as he is a mix). The vet said that was possible. He never eats much at any one time. Whereas Amelie is the more traditional with the one mega meal a day.
