i stated with the jazz master with the instructions to see how easy it was to fret, seemed easier than any other i had tried, lots of toys on it. and then the martin d29 was handed to me with instructions to hold my fingers here and here, after about two hours i had managed to hit, A C D G and some of B but F eludes me still
its a hard chord to play for me.

ive never had much success with playing, my palm always killed the high string, but he showed me to tip it forward a bit and moved my hand right, got it solid then. he is a great teacher, he explained "these are your home chords and these are the two to play with them, practice going from one to the other two and back, then switch to the next home chord and do it again." next thing i knew i had something hat sounded like very slow music coming from it. i got pretty excited, I played till i couldnt hold the stings down from the pain. ill keep it up, just need a kit to practice on.

im hoping to see my grandfather this weekend, he said he will show me some other practices i can to as well. i explained i dont have a guitar yet, he said i could use his electric one, the one he practices on. im pretty excited.

sup when you build one, can you get it done for under a grand, or is that about were you end up price wise

have you ever built an acustic

I've never played a Jazzmaster, someday I would like to get one though. F can be a bitch, I would venture a guess that it is what makes most people quit, I know it made me quit the first time I tried learning. A teacher probably helps with that though.

You could probably build an electric for 500-600, that's assuming you build the body yourself, probably another 200 if you have to buy it. You can buy an acoustic kit on Stewmac for around 500. which do you prefer, Electric or Acoustic?

i dont know if im ever gonna be able to be the next Pete Townsand but i figure i would like to at least be able to string a few notes together at some point

do i have to glue the neck onto the body or does it simply attach with the tension rod?

Are you dead set on building one, because ebay has been great for me, you could get a Mexican Strat or tele for 300 dollars. Electrics are pretty convenient, you can play them unplugged which is way quieter than an acoustic, or plug them in and have them way louder:D

That neck is bolted on, some are glued though, Les Pauls are glued

Electrics have lower action too, which makes 'em easier on the finger tips.

And lighter string gauge typically, and more fun to play, of course that's just opinion, and it really depends on what kind of music you want to play. Although it is possible to play any acoustic song on an electric, but not the other way around.

    lofty goals

It waxes and wanes, in another month it will probably be busy as it ever was, then a month after that you'll start seeing threads about the death of the forum, just seems to be the way it is, although banning Gaps and Sid probably doesn't help, especially Gaps because regardless of what you think of him, he absolutely kept threads lively.
