    In all fairness Engelbert Humperdinck was a genuine pop star in the 1960's and has had a long career. I think it's cool they went with an elder statesman instead of some kid.

    I'm in America...I follow all this stuff remotely because I check out the English language versions of numerous European newspapers...been reading about Eurovision for years but that's all you know, haven;t ever actually seen it. Europe is lucky because for whatever rivalries you have, you can also put up some oddly cooperative cultural efforts. You won't see Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Latin America and the US doing anything akin to Eurovision. The closest thing we have is Concacaf, which is our regional footie governing body (our UEFA). Outside of sports, we barely associate.
