    It has been thick overcast here since last night with heavy mist all day.....hate when you have the dampness of rain without the real rain......suppose to start clearing tomorrow afternoon. I don't see any rain along the Carolina coast...and they are running as we speak at Daytona. :banana:

    yep. they were talking about him on talk radio all day ... I didn't realize, but he was GREAT to the fans, especially kids. so many called up and said about how he went out of his way to so a little league team, have a catch with a kid, etc. unless he was ON FIRE he would stop for anyone who approached politely. a talk show host said that he and Bobby Valentine are the two he remembers consistently approaching the fans and signing for everyone if at all possible. they'd sign for as many as they could before EVERY game.

    yep, its especially sad because he's so young and leaves a family behind.

    he was on a crazy Mets team. 99% were out of control. as different as they were, they all said he was a great team mate and a better friend. Daryl Strawberry, Ron Darling, David Cone, Keith Hernandez, Dwight Gooden and on & on.

    Keith broke down at the end of his interview ... I think they had to cut it short. Darling said he NEVER heard Gary swear ... except when he got the winning rally started with a single with 2 outs and the Mets behind by two in the 6th game of the 1986 World Series. When he crossed first base safely, he shouted out "no way the F'ing World Series was gonna end wiith the bat in my hand!" they said he LOVED baseball and NEVER gave up despite injuries later in his career. :tup:

    I always remember he was solid at and behind the plate. He almost always looked as if he truly loved playing the game. Never went through the motion.
