That's the base processes that you need to know, you would then have to google the others.

You don't have to finish downloading any file, most of these asses embeds the file as a header on the thick file, once you click it, it d/l's to your temp internet files, then d/l's the file you actually wanted to d/l to whatever folder you told it to. The virus will extract itself, it may be on a timer to do it immediately or it could be set on a schedule. So it would infect you say on Monday, you clean it, then re-infect you the following Monday. They set themself up as a ftp service, they go out to the internet and d/l the actual virus that causes harm without a browser and you never know it even happened. You can do alot of auto-processes without the person knowing it was done. We do it all the time here pushing out updated for apps, virus definitions, etc....The people are obvilious to anything we've done.

Did your pc not come with a backup/restore type of app? I don't even have any virus or anything on this pc, there's nothing on it I care about keeping. Once every few months or so I just restore it back to the original config of how I wanted it originally just so the speed of the pc stays good.

I'm glad the page finally turned that had all those damn swinging dicks on it

If your software is worth a shit yes. I can on mine. You should be able to do a manual backup and name it with the dateor something else descriptive to let you know at what state that backup is in.

I thought that windows had one built in, which also allowed you to create custom restore points (saved by date). It has been a long time, so I am not as useful as Bama probably is.

    Same holds true for Linux.

:yup: Browse through http://forum.phun.org/showthread.php?t=283667 I'm sure someone put a link for freeware to do it in there. If not I can see if I can find something. What OS do you have XP or 7?

Linux based system. No one bothers to create viruses for linux for whatever reason. Macs cost a lot more to buy, but I personally feel that it is worth it because Mac OS X is a very stable system (never crashed in almost 3 years) and no bugs.

I'm still getting used to it. It's on this one and seems very stable. They just moved some things around in the gui that I still screw up from time to time because I'm so used to doing it in XP. My regular work pc is still XP. We can't move to 7 totally yet because some of the apps here don't support it. So, I keep 1 with each OS

Control Panel, System and Securty, Backup your computer, and click on create a system image. If you have writeable dvd you can dump it there, if not, just do it on a external drive
