True, but in general you don't see it that often. Not here anyway. Rat and chicken snakes can and will in a hay barn, I have seen that.

There's a shit load of different species here.

    Hey Everybody!

Snakes are active in Florida almost year around.....they get a bit lethargic when the temps get below about 40 F or 5C....that that last only a few days at most.

The only snakes people can buy here are non-venomous, so if one would escape it's not that bad

There's many houses here that have rattlers and Copperheads under them and the owners don't even know.

Well, that is not true here.....pythons have been either released or escaped into the everglades in south Florida a few decades ago...the are non-poisonous, but large constrictors.....their population there is exploding and a serious threat to native species, including snakes, birds and mammals.....I suspect the State and Federal governments will be spending millions of $ to control the population of this evasive species....

    Howdy Thore :wavey:

Same here. There's a creek not very far from my house so a stray cotton mouth has been known to come up too. They usually leave as quick as they come thank God. I REALLY hate those.

I saw a show on cable not long ago about efforts to determine exactly what those snakes are up to. There's a tag and release program where the put a GPS reciever on the bigger ones and then track them. Eventually I think they recapture the snake and destroy it after adding it's behavior and whatnot to the Depatment of Wildlife database.

Yeah, those are really territorial and aggressive. Keep in mind that they like to be up high, in rafters or floor joists, vs. ratltlers that prefer to be on the ground.

Too many of them and many are well over ten feet in length, weighting over 60 pounds....frankly, I would give them an express ticket to snake heaven. :yup:

    True story...

A local had bought his son a python years ago. Time goes by and there were no strays to be seen in that area. Come to find out, the snake escaped it's cage. they tore down the old homestead and found numerous amounts of bones. The snake was recaptured and weighed about 200 lbs, still under the house!
