    With the price of copper, we are having problems with thieves stealing outdoor AC compressors to salvage the copper......big churches have been hit hard by this. Really sucks as they destroy a $5k compressor to get $500 worth of copper.

    Now laws have been passed that require both photo ID and finger prints of persons selling scrape copper, aluminum, brass, and a few other related metals to recycle businesses......seems to have reduced the theft problem.

    We had the copper theft problem ata school when I worked there. We did a remodel with new plumbing, electrical and data. School was built early 1900's, all copper. The district maintenance crew came in over the weekend and swiped about $100k worth of copper. They were going to store it in a district warehouse then sell it a bit at a time. A whole shit pile of people got fired for stealing gov property from the head of maintenance on down.
