    It snows in the surrounding mountains but seldom comes down lower than 3000 feet of elevation. The Las Vegas valley is at about 2500 ft on the west and 1800 ft on the southeast. The Strip is about center at 2000 ft. I've only seen notable accumulations of snow in the valley twice since in the past 18 years, including 5 years ago when we got about 4 to 8 inches. That was very unusual.

    I'm still surprised you're getting such low temperatures. It's just like here, only our cold is more the wet sort of cold, plus we have the chilly winds from the Baltic Sea.
