    Oh goody

I say as a REAL protest, tomorrow we shut down all the banks and stockechanges until the bill fails and Barry takes his commie China crap and sticks his "net neutrality rules" back in his ass where they came from.

I was being sarcastic with the fun, I'm not looking forward to it one bit. Most of the servers don't get powered off but once a year, always have to worry about the drives spinning back up or component failure from the temp change.

how long is the outage? Drives wont cool off the condensate in just 2-3 minutes. You got plenty of hotswap spares in caddies ready to go? Youre doing this during business hours?

30-45 minutes probably, I can't really remember. It takes a hell of a lot longer to bring everything down than it does for them to do their tests. No, not many hotswap drives around here. We've go so many different types of servers it's almost impossible to have spares for all of them. I'm trying to make sure the backups are working right. Not a chance on business hours, usually we do it around midnight but we get to do it around 9 this year, I'm waiting to hear back from one of the system coordinators.

yep, that was the easy part. There's really only 3 critical clinical systems that has a total of 9 servers and a EMC CX300 that needs to come back first, the rest just need to be back online by 7 the next day. It's a total of 41 servers.
Am I on Ray's ignore list?

Each app has a "system coordinator" that learns the app inside and out and teaches to whoever needs to use it. Even though I do them, they plan the upgrades, etc. Handle software calls and such then escalate to us if needed. There's so many different apps here it'd be impossible for us in IT to do it effectively, just to much to learn and we'd be spread to thin. They work in the department of the app, not with us in IT so they know the dept's procedures and how the system ties in with them. They're the the liaison I guess you could say.

lol, no it's not a geek project. We've got 2 main power feeds coming in to the hospital with 4 huge generators tied in the middle for emergency power. All the other emergency power feeds have a auto-switch in their main panel but 1 of ours. Once a year they fire the generators up and kill the power on the main line, make sure the generators hold like their supposed to, swap it over to the secondary power feed and test, then finally back to the original feed. We have to shut the power down on the servers just in case the swap over craps out so the servers don't go down unexpectedly.
