Scribe, you know of Carl Vinson, longtime House Rep from Georgia way back in the day?

 

State of flux here in Vegas smi. Changing of the seasons I guess.

I seem to recall the Navy named a destroyer after him, I think. Why?

Actually an aircraft supercarrier.

Maybe it's me, but as cool as it is that two major NCAA basketball teams will be playing a season game right on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson... Carl Vinson was actually against racial integration in public schools and was quite vocal about it while in Congress. So, it's a bit ironic that two NCAA basketball teams will be playing a game on a aircraft carrier named after a borderline Southern racist.

 

I'm glad you enjoyed. The simple lessons in life are often the most lasting and useful.

It would be ironic if the thing fuckin' sank when they were playing on it. Now that would be irony.

And btw, don't you think there's more than a few black folks serving in her crew? So in other words, yeah, it's just you.

 

Well, I say borderline racist - I don't think he was against civil rights per se... but he was definitely documented as one of the opponents to racial integration in the late 50's.

He was a HUGE supporter of the Navy and passed major legislation in favor of the Navy support (I think the Two-Ocean Navy bill was his deal?). That's why he got a carrier named after him.

 

Was he a Southern Democrat? Those Ku Klux moomoo wearing fucks all became Republicans eventually.

I don't think anyone will ever name anything after me. Of course, I don't earmark billions of tax dollars to the support of anything, so I guess that goes without saying.

 

Don't know if he was a Southern Democrat - I only know of him as I did an essay on the history of racial integration back in high school.

Don't sell yourself short, Scribe - you've made plenty of contributions to the sinful delights to support gambling and other carnal pleasures of Vegas.
