thinking of smoking i spent the day at a glass plant. well now those fuckers are hot
the guy asked how long i could stand next to the side wall before i had to move. i stayed for about 12 seconds it felt like ever.
its a huge tank full of molten glass. the burner kicking on was great, i was viewing threw a shaded lens and it popped on. damn fire blasted accross the tank and near the far side wall. then i stood between the melter and a thing called the regenerators and had a discussion. about 3 feet total of space, the melter being blazing ass hot the the regenerator being hotter than the melter as it feeds the hot air into the melter.
long story short.
i had a hot day.

it was very neat. very very hot
they were telling me when they do a hot repair, they can re-brick the melter while its going. that would be exposure to some degree of 2600 degrees.
the furnace starts at heat up and then never shuts off ever. so for the next 15 to 20 years its on and hot.
so if the tank well fails, they use water to freeze the glass and repair the tank.
i find the entire field of work to be an extreme and very interesting.
if i did not do what im doing now, i would be one of the hot works guys.

Is this a huge factory? I've been to a wine-glass making plant, but it was kinda small. But yeah, that shit is hot.

i was sent there to see what they look like how they run and what they do.
it was very educational

yes, it was a larger plant i think in the 600 tons a day range.
i was at a plant were they make plates and dishes earlier but it was nothingn like this monster.

 

Working from home today, things are ok. A bit busy working on a PP presentation on "Halloween Safety" for my apartment complex - which I need to finish for a 6:00pm meeting tonight. :mrgreen:

Fark. 600 tons a day! The wineglass maker I visited churned out like maybe 50 a day.

Yeah rain-out. They'll startup tomorrow supposedly. Kinda gives a slight edge to the Cardinals, if it goes to a Game 7.
