Most atheists I know view it as rebuke against religion......which is sad really because all you have is a bunch of people out to slander the Bible.......few I would say really look at religion and see the good in it and respect it.

What do you feel about labeling?

I think people overdue and base everything on it.

Though they tend to go hand in hand it's possible to be a deist and agnostic in the same turn. However, people do turn their back on God and church because they feel disenchanted or misled or even betrayed by the teachings of scripture or have just determined that the whole shebang is nonsense. In that context I guess you could call the adoption of atheism a personal revolt or rebellion.

On the other hand as societies take on an evergrowing secular mindset due to greater scientific enlightenment it could be argued that atheism is natural trend away from a need to explain natural forces by crediting them with an obscure cause. That would certainly qualify as an evolution of sorts.

So the answer to your question is 'yes.'

By the way religion and atheism are also two label format. I'm neither. Not that I'm trying to find a label to label myself in.

The words labelling and stereotyping are interchangable in that article.

    They're not labels, they're nouns.

    Hm interesting.

Although that wasn't what I had in mind when I asked the question, I was listening to a professor talk about religion the other day and he was largely against it and pointing out all the flaws etc. and it just got me think of how many atheists there are who hate religion and blindly ignore all the good it has done and can do and how deeply it helps some people.....all they ever bring up is annoying evangelists and suicide bombers....that's not what the general idea behind religion is.........and to me that's just somebody revolting against religion.
An evolution from it....hmm....how do I explain.....well I've always had this view of religion as a sort of walking stick through life.......it's a support system for Humans who can't face he harsh realities......I mean it's great to think bad people are going to Hell and if you do good things and be good to others you'll go to a magical place called Heaven and God at all times is watching over you like a kind father.........I mean wouldn't that be great if that was true.......seriously............but the true facts are that it's not that....and so an actually evolution from religion would be to sort of let go of that walking stick and try to go on on your own.

I haven't read the article but if we're talking of stereotyping........ technically I don't like it....but I do find it largely true that a group of people from the same background/culture share the same traits.

Both good points. There are numerous ways to look at your question and probably no wrong answers.

But it explain what I was trying to say.

People do it all the time and they expect you to be part of a determined thing. Like , what is your religion, or are you an atheist, or agnostic.

Maybe I don't fit in any of the descriptions, and even if one does is almost like they incorporate with everything about it, is like a close casket. I leave myself open to everything, I don't like labeling myself to a limitation.

Same thing with politics, one ask me, what am I a liberal or a conservative. Is like do I really have to be one or the other, or a variation of one or the other? Is almost like I have too. Is like you must choose a side.

Is more about grouping, which it leads to stereotyping.

People of any culture will share a numer of similarities, that's to be expected. Stereotyping fails to take into consideration individualism within a culture. That's what makes stereotyping ignorant.

I think I'm gonna go to sleep now. At least I'm going to try. Take care Jack.

People are afraid or just bloody lazy to comprehend new things and so they try to group things up with stuff they already know.....it's so easy to say "oh yeah him...he's a Jew so he must be blah blah and blah" rather than "He's a unique person with his own ideas and characteristics which I shall have to grow accustomed to and pay attention to in order to get to know him".
