Sorry, was off again.

 

Way back in the Stone Age when I was just a lad of 19 living in Dallas I had this zany, sexy, off the hook girlfriend who decided one night to kill herself - an actual attempt because there was no warning to it. She took a handful of tuinals (a very strong barbituate) and washed 'em down with a big glass of Jack Daniels then layed down in a warm bath while the drugs and booze took affect.

Only by chance did a friend of hers come by to pick up something he had left at her apartment earlier (this is back when we routinely left our doors unlocked) and found her in the bath in just barely enough time to get her to Parkland Hospital.

She was more or less DOA but they plugged her into all manner of machines up in the ICU and there she lay for 8 days in a coma. On the 9th day her eyes fluttered open and she ask for me by name. I, along with several of her family members down from Michigan, had been holding vigil by her bedside (well, waiting room) all that time. It was an astonishing thing to behold. Though we never lost faith few of us thought she'd ever recover. Funny how resilient the human body can be. So delicate and yet so incredibly stalwart.

It is because of that very experience that I have no doubt you'll recover just fine. Where there's a will there's a way as they say. And I know yours is about as stubborn as they come.

 

My girlfriend asked me to join her bridge club.... I jump off next Monday.
