the one driver was very knowledgeable on the Hopi religion, but ive been unable to find what he said on the Internet. but i did find some of what he said and it appears he was right and the Hopi do appear to have that thought to be sure.

i had never heard of it as well, i cant imagine every tribe all coming up with the same idea for the dead. but he did bring up a good point, were are the fossils of man.

People were left hanging on trees during wars etc. to instill fear among the others, or as a mark of shame, if a rapist etc. had been brought to justice and hung.

    this would be BC
so the understanding of laws would very wildly from tribe to tribe.

    but does it sound plausible

they would pull the corps into a tree, then leave it there and hope it didnt fall later. they had no rope.

im starting to doubt it. but this still leaves the question
    were is fossilized man!?

your probably right. but keep in mind, there would be no paper, no launguage arts beyond what Asia had created. i suppose they may have recorded how they dealt with a corps.

  8. It sounds plausible to me. I think why we haven't found more is because of normal decomp.

  9. Something like that would have been done by a people that has an oral history.

Fossils of any particular creature are pretty rare. Since we're entirely biodegradable there's seldom anything left to leave a mark. Ever been out in the woods or whatever, away from civilization? Ever run across a dead animal?

  11. Don't forget that bones were used by people to make all kinds of things.

how far back are we going?

    Oral history is unreliable.

  13. But my point was that those type of rituals would have been lost when that people died off or were taken over by someone else.

a lot of things decompose, dinosaurs were water just like us, but hey fossilized. could it be man has not been on the earth long enough to be a fossil, but even at that, wouldn't we find humans on there way to being a fossil. they say we've been here for 10 thousand years. so...

    thats an interesting thought
what is it that makes you think they would be more oral instead of written.

  20. A people like that would probably be more of a hunter gatherer type people and it is harder keeping track of something like that. Look at many native American tribes until Europeans came there weren't that many that were known for having a written language.
