Bout time the Giants freaking score today.

Wha?!?! Tornadoes in your area, supes? How close to Sacramento?

    Scribe :hi:

That's why Game 2 is going to be critical - and ideal - for the Mavs to win. The Mavs bench - Terry, Barea and Peja - HAVE to step it up.

He didn't have his way last night. What makes you think that will change? I think the Mavs are in trouble if Wade has one or two really good games.

hah... well yeah that helps. :)

a major reason why Miami won was the bench outscored the Mavs bench (27-17) and the big thing for the Mavs this whole playoff series has been how the bench has been scoring way more than the opposing team's bench. I mean for the most part, Dallas did a pretty decent job containing the "big three" of the Heat... the bench let them down tho. And you figure, the Mavs defense isn't going to contain the big three that often

    True dat.

On the other hand, since I don't have a dog in this race I don't care who wins. ;)
Sucks about Posey. That play at the plate infuriated me. :x

That Marlin should've been fined and suspended. If that was an NFL game that would've been called a blatant late hit.

just east of sac, north of me, not close and even if they were i wouldnt be very worried, they may knock over a shed but they arent gonna be ripping off any roofs or picking up cars

his past history, lebron wont be locking him down like he did rose

i believe the Mavs led the league in bench scoring, they just missed open threes last nigh

i cant believe anybody who doesnt live in miami could root for them

My rooting interest is mostly Jason Kidd (being a Cal guy)... plus, there is just something wrong if the "Heatles" win the finals on their first trip.

The thing that made me angry was that Posey wasn't COMPLETELY blocking the plate - Cousins (the Marlin) had a lane to slide into (right side of the plate) and chose to blow up Posey.

Part of me thinks that if the catcher is giving a scorer no quarter at all, then yeah - blow him up. At the same time, baseball is not made to be a contact sport and that type of collision is likely to put someone in the DL more often than not. Not to mention the after effects (i.e. Ray Fosse).

If there aren't already, there ought to be specific guidelines on sliding into/taking any base. Leading with your shoulder while the guy covering the base is ON THE GROUND should have immediate and dire financial consequences to the base runner.

Whatever. I got nothing against Miami other than they eliminated the Bulls, but I hold the Bulls accountable for that.

Gonna stop in this McD's here and get a cold drink. Brb....

is there a history of that play causing i lot of injuries, i hate to see rule changes based on overreaction to a star player being hurt, but if its known to cause major injuries then they should do something about it

The most infamous "plate collision" was when Pete Rose bowled over Ray Fosse... IN THE FREAKING ALL-STAR GAME.

I don't know the extent of Fosse's injuries, but before that collision, he was one of the top defensive catchers in the game and people said he was heading to the Hall of Fame. He was NEVER the same after getting pummeled by Rose.

More recently in my memory, former SF Giants catcher Todd Greene had a huge collision a few years ago when Prince Fielder trucked him at the plate. He played only one more year after that in the Bigs and never was the same player.

it seems like it has the potential to be bad but rarely is, it may seem cold but if its been in the game for so long and there are only 3 instances of serious injury id have to leave it alone, id imagine more pitchers have been cracked in the head by a ball and had their careers shortened, but its just the risk you take by playing the game

Did you see the play? Check it out on youtube if not. Doesn't matter to me if it was Posey or someone I'vve never heard of. There's no place in baseball for that shit.

OH, there's probably at least a dozen career-ending instances - but I can't recall all of them. And then you have to balance out which ones were within reason - like I said, if the catcher isn't giving a runner any chance to clearly slide to score, then blow him up. But it's really really unfortunate when it doesn't have to happen - and to have our young star catcher get knocked out of the season... just insult to injury.

ive seen it, its a rough play but i dont see how you eliminate that, it looked like any other collision at the plate, posey just got his leg stuck, it looked like a fluke, but as i said, i dont know how common a serious injury at the plate is, if its like QBs in the NFL and concussions then they should do something
