    Just look up some sig tutorials, there's plenty of them all over the web. Deviantart is really good for 'em and you don't have to register. Also, bear in mind that I've actually been a member here since 2006 (started a new account, long story) and more or less began to make sigs when the creative backyard was born. Truth is I'm an incredibly lazy bastard at producing them and wing it most of the time. For instance, the background for the Miley one I just made is some random abstract painting I just fiddled with. As for brushes, the Miley one above and my current one are the first time I've used them in ages. I'm certainly no expert with them.

    As far as brushes go I've never used custom brushes much, in fact I just deleted a bunch of texture brushes I never really used and went back to the standard hard and soft brushes and saved it as my new default. Those are what I use 99.9% of the time anyway. Only if you're doing digital painting do you really need some spotty brushes with jitter etc. but I can give you a few links if you need them.

    Lighting? Just learn what all the blending modes do. Blending modes FTW!

    Just looking at lots of good sigs here and anyplace else will develop your sense of design and help with decisions on what looks good and what doesn't... you can also "copy" (steal) anything you like :D Having more time helps, I'm doing this for practice because the last couple of years I haven't used PS every day like I used to and I was getting rusty. So ATM I don't mind spending a half hour on a sig just trying stuff, turning effects on and off before deciding what I think looks best on the day.

    You wanted the fonts used in a couple of the Neve Campbell sigs... my SOTW line is Bickham Script Pro, the name and phun tag are Baar Metanoia.

    On your sig for karamela his name looks a bit like an extra black Helvetica, is that a free font by any chance?
