Ah. I read it years ago, wasn't very enamored with it either. It hardly defines the genre though. The best American authors, like Bradbury, Vonnegut, etc, those who we now would consider mainstream because of their success, weren't trying to be profound or compelling, their aim was to be entertaining. Turns out they were insightful and compelling as a matter of course.

 

Those aren't really classical though.

 

Bosh. The term Classical as defines litrature is bullshit. It's just a benign catchall term for "not very modern but not quite Victorian."

That's fine. So does my oldest sister. She likes the eloquence of the prose. She's not very imaginative though. And she's nearly 60 too, so I can understand her attraction to the era. What's your excuse?

I most certainly agree with the first two......I have literally spent my life lost in another ear and continent through books and movies.
