I understand but there is really a very small population of livestock. It's done to protect the other species that are at risk. And no the population is not at risk that's just a rumor. The hunts are varied out by the state that keeps a very close eye on pop. Keep in mind it's very expensive to do so they don't want to if they don't have to.
It's a different picture when you live there and learn what is really going on compared to what is just made up

 

Well you might be right, I haven't really been there....but I still don't support killing for no reason.....as for saying it's to thin out the population....well the human population is the largest of all....why not go kill some humans.

 

Our history teacher once said usually wars take care of that. He kept saying "War is hygiene".

.....that's the beauty of our species....though we multiply like jack rabbits....we're blessed with an abundance of stupidity that help us find numerous asinine ways to kill each other off.

if i recall jack each time they did that is was like 10 grand or something, so they only did it when they felt it was very necesarry. i know it sounds horrable but its for the better cause of it.

also it was very frustrating to me how hampered the people of the north were by the laws past by people in the states. legislators that had never been there, never considered the reality of the situation, legislated laws that effected the half million that lived there and never cared. the fishing laws were a book about 2 inches thick and were just this side of ridicules, so the average fishermen had to know all the commercial laws and abide by them or face federal penalties. its sort of twisted.

they have bear hunts as well, the wolfs and the bears have no natural predators out there becouse they dont hunt each other, and an over abundant of those can devastate another heard of vegetarian beasts. like elk or even moose. although moose are pretty fast and big so they sort of are in a class like elephants really. not that much hunt a full grown moose.

you have to keep in mind, Alaska is either mountain or swamp and damn little besides that so hunting from the air is the only way really. as far as giving them a chance, they dont need a chance, they are over populated to the point that the other species dont have a chance sort of way.

anyway, yea i dont think its that great, but it works for now.
