After learning how to search through dead old posts, I'm thinking of doing a 'collage' of sorts, of all of my previous milestones ?

Can liberty be achieved without some form of governance?

 

I'm not sure?

 

So I'm thinking about liberty and freedom...are we ever free.... any civilization of colony must undoubtedly have some ruler to preside, who though may be elected by the people...still in a way commands them....yes it might in modern terms be regard as freedom...but in a more basic sense it isn't.....it's self imposed servitude......which leads me to think that the only way we truly achieve freedom is through servitude....a paradox (but really if you look deeply almost everything cumulates in a paradox).....a single man can be free...he can leave civilization and live in the wild of his own accord....but as soon as there is more than one there becomes a need for a leader for the true freedom of more than one person is unsustainable....there views and opinion will no doubt at some point clash and demand the need of a single resolution....but back to the point of servitude....which seems to the human mind as the only acceptable form of freedom.....everything we do is under some form of rule and never by our own whim... whether it be God or the Government all our actions and our thoughts are moderated by a power we consider higher than our own fancy.

You made a good point though I don't know if servitude is the correct term. It's close enough anyway. Hard to sum up a lawful society in one word though.

 

It is servitude...but in a sense it's also freedom....one of the metaphors I use for it in my head is a ne involving S&M....now you might think that the dominative is really in power...but he/she isn't....the submissive is....for the submissive willing surrenders and can stop the situation any time he/she likes.


But still the main question is why are we always so keen on following somebody rather than walking our own way.

Someone has to do the dirty work. Put 'em in a position of authority so you can keep an on 'em, but not too close an eye. That way you can live in tacit denial, secure in the fact that things are being done to ensure your ongoing survival while freeing you up to pursue your own interests. It's all smoke and mirrors of course but if it functions more or less how it's supposed to, why mess with a good thing? That applies to civilized governments of course. Despots are a different matter all together.
